Rev. W.A. ‘Chip’ Strickland
Rev. William A. (Chip) Strickland, Jr. is a river rat born and raised on Blythe Island, near Brunswick, Georgia. Raised in the United Methodist Church, he answered his call to ministry in 1996. Pastor Chip was appointed to Riverside UMC in June of 2015 after serving as the Sr. Pastor of Kingsland First UMC and Guyton UMC. He has also served as Associate Pastor at both St. Simons UMC and Mulberry Street UMC. He enjoys working the Walk to Emmaus, Chrysalis, and Journey Weekends. Pastor Chip is passionate about revitalization and the spiritual health of churches. He is very active in community and has been a Sports Chaplain in various High Schools. He is a Certified Chaplain with the Georgia Sheriff’s Association and serves with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, The Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, and Georgia Homeland Security. Chip has been married to Tristan Alexander Strickland for 30 years, who is also a native of Brunswick. Both Chip and Tris love being around the water. Chip and Tris have 2 children, Lindsay and Trey and one grandchild, Madelyn.
Church Business Administrator
Chuck Huber (aka “Senior Chief”) is the Director of Administration. He relocated to Macon in January 2008 from the Washington, DC area where he served as a church business administrator in several area churches. He retired from the U.S. Navy Band, Washington, DC in 1995 where he was a member of the Sea Chanters Chorus and later became the Comptroller and Supply Officer for 14 years. He was also the baritone soloist and cantor at the National United Methodist Church, Washington, DC for 30 years. Chuck regularly performs with the Choral Society of Middle Georgia. He has a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Murray State University. Chuck and his wife Pam have 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 2 ½ great-grandchildren.
Director of Young Adult & Youth Ministries
David Compere is the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. His parents were Southern Baptist missionaries stationed in Nigeria, West Africa, where David was born. He studied social work and theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and became a licensed clinical social worker. David has worked with adolescents and their parents for over 20 years in mental health, addiction, and ministry. An avid motorcycle rider, he recently participated in the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. He and his wife Meg have 3 wonderful teenage girls.
Director of Children’s Center
Julie Chambers is the Director of the Children’s Center here at Riverside. A born and bred Maconite, she has been in the childcare industry for the past 35 years. Julie worked at Ingleside Baptist Church’s Children’s Center from 1995-2003. She started at Riverside as the Asst. Director in 2003. In 2008, Julie was selected as the new Director. As Director, Julie has insured the center has maintained its status of being one of the top childcare centers in middle Georgia. She has spearheaded various renovation projects at the center, the latest being the updating of the front of the center with new fencing and landscaping. She is married to Mark Chambers and has 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
